Why You Can Trust The Scene
The Scene Okanagan combines venue information, automated checks, and editorial review. We record evidence and verification dates where available, and use expiry rules to withhold overdue offers. Information can change between checks; confirm important details with the venue.
How verification works
Our verification records can include the value, supporting sources, a confidence score, the verification method, when the information was checked, and its next review date. Listings can also come from venue submissions, imports, and editorial updates.
A Google business-status or opening-hours check does not verify a venue's happy-hour menu. A verification date describes the recorded check, rather than a guarantee that every detail is current.
Four verification tiers
Confidence is weighted, not counted
Two Reddit posts don't outweigh the venue's own website. We score sources by how trustworthy they actually are, and confidence is calculated from the weighted sum of agreeing sources — not by counting them.

Information expires automatically
Happy hours, individual deals, and wine promotions with a recorded verification deadline are withheld when that deadline passes. Happy hours with an offer end date remain valid through that final day in Vancouver time. An hourly database job moves overdue records into review and logs failures for administrators.
Verified business attributes have a 24-hour grace period after their review deadline. General listing hours and records without a deadline do not all expire automatically. Seasonal closures override normal hours, and unconfirmed hours are labelled where available.

Facts vs. recommendations
Facts (hours, patio, dog-friendly, happy hour, accessibility) require evidence. Recommendations (hidden gem, editor's pick, locals' favourite, AI pick, trending) are editorial. Their labels and explanations should help you distinguish a recommendation from a verified detail.

Community reports & owner corrections
Spotted something wrong? Tap the trust badge on any listing to see the evidence chain, then report a correction. Reports from trusted community contributors carry weight in the verification engine; owner corrections override AI confidence and become the new official source.
Business owners can claim their listing and submit corrections at any time. Owner confirmation is the highest-weighted source we accept.
