Why You Can Trust The Scene
The Scene Okanagan isn't a directory. It's a local intelligence platform where every fact is evidence-based, every recommendation is explainable, and stale information removes itself automatically. Here's exactly how it works.
Every fact passes through verification
Before a happy hour, patio, or set of hours appears anywhere on the site, an AI worker writes it into our verification engine. The engine records the value, every source that supports it, a confidence score, the verification method, when it was last checked, and when it must be re-verified.
Nothing public bypasses this pipeline — not editor picks, not imports, not automated discovery.
Four verification tiers
Confidence is weighted, not counted
Two Reddit posts don't outweigh the venue's own website. We score sources by how trustworthy they actually are, and confidence is calculated from the weighted sum of agreeing sources — not by counting them.
| Source | Weight |
|---|---|
| Business owner confirmation | 100 |
| Official website | 95 |
| Google Business | 90 |
| Official event calendar | 90 |
| Municipal / Tourism website | 90 |
| Facebook page | 85 |
| Instagram account | 80 |
| Ticketing platform | 80 |
| Trusted community contributor | 75 |
| Multiple Google reviews | 60 |
| Single Google review | 35 |
| Reddit / forums | 20 |
Information expires automatically
Every fact has an expiry. When the next-verification date passes, the attribute is demoted off the public site within the hour and routed to Mission Control for re-check. No stale hours, no expired deals.
| Attribute | Re-verifies every |
|---|---|
| Live music tonight | 1 day |
| Happy hour deals | 30 days |
| Half-price wine | 30 days |
| Patio / Rooftop | 90 days |
| Reservations | 90 days |
| Dog friendly · Family friendly · Accessibility | 180 days |
Facts vs. recommendations
Facts (hours, patio, dog-friendly, happy hour, accessibility) require evidence. Recommendations (hidden gem, editor's pick, locals' favourite, AI pick, trending) are editorial — they're clearly labelled as such, and every one is clickable to reveal the reasoning behind it.
You'll never see an opinion presented as a fact on The Scene.
Community reports & owner corrections
Spotted something wrong? Tap the trust badge on any listing to see the evidence chain, then report a correction. Reports from trusted community contributors carry weight in the verification engine; owner corrections override AI confidence and become the new official source.
Business owners can claim their listing and submit corrections at any time. Owner confirmation is the highest-weighted source we accept.
hello@thesceneokanagan.comWhat we will not do
- Publish hours or deals we can't back with evidence.
- Let paid placement outrank a more relevant verified venue.
- Show a recommendation without explaining why we made it.
- Keep stale data live to inflate inventory.
We'd rather show fewer venues with confidence than a long list you can't trust.
