Family Activities in Kelowna

Kid-tested, parent-approved. The best things to do with kids in the Okanagan — from splash parks to farm visits to rainy-day escapes.

Kelowna and the wider Okanagan Valley have quietly become one of the best places in Canada to raise — or visit with — a family. Between the freshwater beaches on Okanagan Lake, the working farms up in Lake Country, the wildlife-viewing at Myra-Bellevue, and the compact walkable downtown, you can build a full weekend of kid-first days without ever needing to drive more than twenty minutes. This guide is the shortlist we send to friends when they ask what's actually worth doing with kids in tow.

Summer is the obvious peak, and for good reason: Kitsilano-style lakefronts like City Park, Gyro Beach and Rotary Beach all offer shallow entry, roped-off swim zones, playgrounds within earshot and washrooms nearby — the trifecta most parents actually plan around. When the heat crests, the splash pad at Stuart Park is still the single most-visited kid destination in downtown Kelowna, and it costs nothing. On smoke or rain days, we lean on the indoor climbing at Kelowna Gymnastics, Energyplex trampoline park, and the free family gallery at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

Shoulder seasons are underrated. September through October means U-pick apples and pumpkin patches at farms like Kelowna Land & Orchard and Davison Orchards up in Vernon — genuinely magical afternoons for kids under ten. In winter, Big White is a 55-minute drive from downtown and runs one of the strongest kids' ski-school programs in the province, while Stuart Park's outdoor rink turns into a nightly free skate under the tree lights.

How we chose these

Every listing below is either a verified family-friendly business on The Scene or an attraction our editors have visited with kids. We prioritise places with clear pricing, actual washrooms, safe drop-off zones and staff who don't blink when a stroller rolls in. Where a business is a Verified Partner, hours and admission are re-checked on a rolling schedule so you don't show up to a locked door on a Tuesday. If something's missing or out of date, tell us on the Community page — this list only stays useful when locals keep it honest.
