Free parks, trails and scenic walks
Almost everything in this category is free to enter: municipal and regional parks, beach access, and trail networks like Knox Mountain, Mission Creek Greenway and Myra-Bellevue charge nothing to walk. What can cost money is parking, gated provincial-park day use, and guided or lift-served access. Where a fee applies we say so on the listing rather than in the category description, so treat the card as the source of truth before you drive out.
Flat waterfront walks vs. real elevation
The valley splits neatly into two kinds of outing. Waterfront and greenway paths — the boardwalk, lakeshore parks, creekside greenways — are flat, mostly paved or hard-packed, stroller-friendly, and workable year-round. Hillside trails on Knox Mountain, the Kettle Valley grade and the Mission Creek canyon climb steadily, are loose or rocky underfoot, and get hot and exposed by midday in summer. Filter for family friendly if you want the first kind, and read the listing's own description before committing to the second.
Dogs, and why we don't guess
Off-leash and dog-beach access is set by municipal bylaw, not by whether a place happens to be a park, so we never infer it. A park only shows as off-leash or dog friendly here when it appears on a cited municipal source; everything else stays unmarked until we can verify it.
